The Greedy Cow Café: One of the Best Places to Have Breakfast Near Lake Tekapo
The Greedy Cow Café at Lake Tekapo was so full when I went to visit. There were customers sitting at almost all the tables. I went up to the counter to look at the menus and all the food options.
There were so many different kinds of drinks alone! They had coffees like cappuccino and macchiato. They also had flavored tea and ice coffee, as well as drinks like hot chocolate.
Then I looked at the food options. Apart from full breakfast platters, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, they had pancakes, eggs Benedict, French toast and pancakes. I liked how many different options there were.
The café was selling cookies in paper bags and the cookie bags had been carefully arranged on shelves.

I looked inside the bakery case and saw readymade sandwiches (just like at the Astro Cafe). There were vegan and ham and cheese sandwiches, among others.
The scones and croissants looked huge! They had obviously been freshly baked that morning. The cinnamon rolls already seemed to be over.
I also saw bacon and egg sandwiches and roast beef sandwiches. There were bagel sandwiches and croissant sandwiches.
Customers had options about their choice of bread and filling! Everything looked quite big and hearty.
There were even some curry chicken wraps which had been carefully tied with string so that the chicken wouldn’t spill out.
I looked at the paper menus of The Greedy Cow Café. Apart from what I had already seen on the board above the counter, there was a separate children’s section. It had options like mini pancakes and bacon mac and cheese. The Turkish eggs and avocado mushroom toast in the main section also looked interesting.
The Greedy Cow Café had also provided their Wifi password so that guests could sit and work inside the café.
The desserts section had just as many options as the savory section. There were different flavors of macarons, like pistachio and passionfruit.
The brownies looked really rich and tasty and the black sesame macarons were intriguing.
Other desserts that they had available were the vegan burnt cheesecake and orange poppy seed muffins.
The seed honey slice and the matcha chocolate tarts were some of the more unique desserts that I didn’t often see in bakeries. There were so many types of desserts that I barely knew what to order.
The cream filled puffs looked soft and fluffy. They were topped with powdered sugar for some added sweetness.
Cute little signs about coffee and a large pair of horns from some kind of animal had been used to decorate the café.
Finally, I ordered the egg Benedict salmon and it appeared at my table before long. The eggs were perfectly poached, the salmon was soft and flaky and the hollandaise sauce was very creamy. They served the eggs and salmon with a slice of toasted bread.
The cappuccino had a pretty leaf pattern on top and the café staff had given me a spoon in case I wanted to add some sugar into my coffee.
The beef hotpot was served with two slices of toast and pats of butter (and this one tastes so delicious, just like the Land Lover’s Trilogy I had at the Mackenzies Café Bar & Grill).
