Grand Hyatt Hotel Chengdu Breakfast Buffet: From Traditional Chinese to Western Cuisine
The breakfast at the Grand Hyatt in Chengdu was very impressive (just like their gym, swimming pool & sauna).
The names of the dishes were written on boards in both English and Mandarin. There were some traditional Chinese dishes.
The stir fried noodles and other dishes were all served in traditional bowls and kept warm for the guests.
The cauliflower looked really yummy and fresh. I served myself with the pair of tongs that the hotel staff had provided.
I also really liked how the hotel had set up some of the local produce like chilies and spices in one corner of the room. It gave the tourists and hotel guests an idea of what was grown in Chengdu and China in general.
Then I went to the bakery section. I could see many different types of bread apart from all the pastries and sweet items.
There were all kinds of things at the bakery section, from walnut Mexican bread to chocolate cocoa mochi.
Big glass jars of fresh watermelon juice were kept on a bed of ice so that they would stay cool and refreshing.
Even the oat milk and skim milk were in jars on ice.
There were pancakes that were shaped like teddy bear faces at the buffet. They were so cute that I almost didn’t want to eat one!
Other available sweet treats were egg tarts and bread pudding. The pudding had dried fruits and sliced almonds on top. Both the desserts were a rich golden brown on top and had clearly been caramelized.
The fruit Danishes were topped by berries and powdered sugar and looked extremely appetizing.
The baguettes and sourdough loaves were so big. If a guest wanted a piece, they could cut off a slice for themselves.
Bowls of plain yogurt and cold Swiss cereal sat on a bed of ice, next to a variety of toppings.
The croissants looked flaky and delicious. There was even a flavor called caramel nut croissant, which I had never seen before.
A variety of jams, peanut butter, plain butter and Nutella would be an excellent topping for toast.
I looked inside the fridge and found multiple cartons of milk.
There were so many different kinds of cereals. Healthy wheat cereals and sugary, chocolatey cereals were available. The staff had poured them into bowls for the guests to serve themselves.
But the boxes were also right there and guests could pour themselves a bowl straight from the box.
I saw some bowls filled with nuts and canned fruits.
Fresh fruits and various types of citruses had been kept on big white plates.
The hotel staff had even peeled and sliced fruit for the convenience of the guests. As you can see in the images above, dragon fruit, papaya and melon were all available.
Then I went towards the noodle section. Not only were there dried noodles hanging from a big drying rack, I could see pickle jars full of pickles right next to the noodles.
The sautéed mushrooms looked really delicious and full of flavor.
The cucumber had been tossed with fried garlic and it was a very refreshing side dish.
Even the spicy dried tofu looked quite unique and worth a try!
The cold cuts section had salami and sausages and other kinds of meat. They had been sliced very thinly so that guests could taste the flavor of the meat without it being too chewy. Slices of lemon could be eaten with the cold cuts.
I was happy to see that the hotel had even served some smoked salmon and mackerel with the other cold cuts.
Pickled onions, olives, capers and sundried tomatoes could be used to turn the cold cuts into a full platter. It would be a luxurious but refreshing treat.
The hard cheese was kept covered by glass.
For those who wanted a healthy breakfast, there were a variety of salad options. Guests could make their own salad with their choice of dressing, greens and vegetables.
But there were also some readymade salads, including a Waldorf salad and a carrot salad.
I found a station for hot milk with cups and saucers beside it. It was right next to the oatmeal and porridge section.
The hot food was all kept on electric burners so that they wouldn’t become cold. And guests could serve themselves from the cooking utensils.
The fried potatoes looked absolutely delicious.
And the pork sausages had been fried to perfection.
There was an egg station, where guests could get their eggs made to order.
They even had some tomatoes, cheese, ham, peppers and other things to cook the eggs with.
The fritters, dumplings and pot stickers were the highlight of the buffet.
The congee came with all sorts of toppings.
The bao was soft and steaming.
Guests could also get their noodles made to order.
I really loved the décor of the dining room. I had to take some pictures of the room itself, apart from all the food.
