Mercure Chengdu Chunxi Taikoo Li Hotel Breakfast Buffet: From Traditional Sichuan Dishes to Popular Western Food
The first thing that I saw at the breakfast buffet at the Mercure Chengdu Chunxi Taikoo Li Hotel was lots of greens and a large salad.
There was also a pot of soup that was being kept warm.
All kinds of garnishes and toppings like green onions, chili oil and soy sauce were available.
Hotel guests could make their own salad if they wanted, with vegetables like cabbage, cucumber and onions and a variety of dressings and vinaigrettes.
The cold cuts platter had some interesting cheese and meat options. There was a pair of metal tongs so that I could serve myself a bit of whatever I wanted.
Then I went to check out the fresh fruits section. This was perfect for the people who liked healthy meals.
The blackberries looked really delicious. But there were also so many different kinds of cut fruits, like melon and watermelon, oranges and even cherry tomatoes!
The hot foods section had a sesame fish that looked really nutty and flavorful.
And the noodles were thick, saucy and full of all kinds of vegetables. I served myself a big serving of the noodles.
Even the green beans looked quite good. I wanted to try some green vegetables to make my meal healthier so I took some.
One of the other healthy options was steamed pumpkin. It looked a little mushy and overcooked but it tasted quite sweet and nice.
The bread pudding had been served in the container that it had been baked in. But it looked a little messy from where guests had already served themselves.
All the hot foods were served in warming trays so that they wouldn’t become cold. It was all quite light and fitting for breakfast.
Then I went to see what kind of sausages they had. There were two options, chicken and pork sausages.
The pieces of bacon were thick and fatty. They were served on slices of white toast so that they wouldn’t be extra greasy or cold.
I really liked the look of the egg fried rice too!
Next, I found four bowls of cereal. There were both healthy options and sweet, sugary options.
A container of warm milk had been placed right next to the bowls of cereal.
But there were options for cold milk as well. I also saw apple juice and orange juice. Guests could pour themselves a glass by turning the tap of the juice containers.
The lemonade container was already empty! The hotel guests must have enjoyed it a lot.
The fusilli pasta looked very interesting. It almost looked like it had been cooked like Chinese noodles, with cabbage and carrots and soy sauce. I served myself some so that I could try it.
Then I went to the bakery section where the croissants and bread all looked great. I could also see Danish pastries.
A toaster sat beside the baskets of bakery goods. I popped in a slice of toast so that I could toast it to perfection.
The little pots of jam were very cute. There were three flavors and they had been placed on a small shelf, above a whole shelf of individual butter containers. There was even a bottle of honey right next to them.
I loved the glass cookie jars which held different flavors of cookies. The green matcha cookies looked especially interesting.
The hotel had a cane basket filled with slices of white bread. I wished they had more interesting kinds of bread but decided to take a slice of bread anyway.
The tiny chocolate and vanilla muffins and the tea cakes were very fluffy and light. They weren’t dry at all and had a subtle flavor.
Then I found some Swiss rolls which had been carefully rolled up with layers of custard in between. The desserts weren’t too sweet, which I liked.
The cheese scones were the perfect savory item among all the baked goodies. There were only a few left by the time I went to the buffet so I knew that the hotel guests must have really enjoyed them.
There was a special Chengdu dish and I could see things like lotus roots inside the spicy looking sauce.
I found the section on local desserts fascinating. There was guiling paste along with a number of toppings like bananas and raisins. Guests could serve themselves in little white bowls.
The purple sweet potato balls had sprinkles on top and looked very pretty and inviting.
And there was a fresh pot of chrysanthemum tea. I could even see the flowers inside the tea.
Other tea options were green tea and hot black tea.
There was also a live section where pancakes and noodles were being constantly made. The chefs all seemed very busy.
The special Sichuan pickles were served in little blue and white porcelain jars.
Guests could choose all kinds of toppings for their noodles.
It was an excellent buffet.
