Vogel St Kitchen in Dunedin: A Cozy Place to Have Some Fresh and Yummy Food for Breakfast
I went to the Vogel St Kitchen in Dunedin for breakfast. It was a cute looking café and restaurant that served coffee and pizzas and sandwiches. I was looking for some fresh and yummy food and I was sure that I’d get it at Vogel St Kitchen.
The first thing that I saw as soon as I entered was a huge blackboard behind the counter. It had some of the menu items written on it. I saw that the place served wood-fired pizzas and sandwiches. The pizzas had interesting names like Bannockburn and Saddle Hill.
Some bakery items had been laid out on the counter. Customers could take a look at what the Vogel St Kitchen was serving and choose whatever they wanted.
Clean glasses hung above the counter and had been kept on shelves behind the counter. I saw that some of the things they were offering were cinnamon scrolls, savory brioche and cheese scones.
There were customers sitting at the wooden tables and enjoying their food. But I could see that there were still quite a few empty tables where I could choose to sit down.
My cappuccino came out as soon as I sat down. It had been decorated with a leaf pattern and dusted with some chocolate powder on one side.
I had also ordered a cold coffee (and speaking of coffee, you can also read my post about my coffee stop here in Dunedin at Vanguard Specialty Café). It was served in a glass with a straw.
There was a wood fire stove in the center of the room. The fire inside was burning brightly and it was keeping the whole café warm. A basket filled with logs had been kept beside the stove so that someone could tend to the fire without any problems.
The counter was pretty cluttered. There were coffee machines, jars, cups and plates everywhere. There was even a vase filled with flowers.
I looked at the menu on the blackboard as I waited for my food. There were quite a few interesting items on the menu.
The first thing that I had ordered was the egg benedict salmon. It was served topped with cheese, pesto and sundried tomatoes. It had a lot of flavor.
I had also ordered the mushrooms sautéed. This was served on some toast and had some parmesan and greens as toppings.
One side of the café had huge piles of chopped wood for the fire. I was sure that the staff needed the logs both for cooking and for keeping the café warm in the winter months.
It was conveniently located near the kitchen so that the staff could easily come out and fetch the wood that they needed.
There was an open style kitchen with some glass partitions. I could see the chefs working inside the kitchen and preparing the food.
The bakery items had all been neatly labelled and they were quite big in size.
Some of the items that were available were coconut baby cakes, cream cheese swirl brownies, ginger crunch and Lolly cakes.
The restaurant was beginning to fill up more and more now.
Some newspapers had been laid out on the windowsills for the customers to read. The windows had a view of the main street outside.

The all-day dining options in the menu included things like waffles, French toast, chowder, eggs benedict and burgers. There were also sharing platters like potato skins and polenta fries. There was also a list of wine and cocktails.
Along with wood-fired pizzas and sandwiches, the restaurant was also serving fresh juices, sparkling drinks, beer and cider. The sandwiches had fillings like pulled pork, crispy fried tofu and chicken, lemon, garlic and thyme.
