Lake View Seafood Restaurant: Authentic Chinese Food in Wanaka
The Lake View Seafood Restaurant in Wanaka was a Chinese restaurant. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with tall blue and white Chinese vases and wooden screens. The interior looked very elegant and fancy and I was looking forward to eating some good food.
There were plenty of round tables in the restaurant (just like in Impression Restaurant Dunedin). Many of them had a lot of chairs and were clearly meant for big groups. Since it was nighttime, I couldn’t actually see the view through the big glass windows.
There was a big, well-lit bar on one side. It was full of glasses, bottles of wine and other beverages.
I ordered a sparkling wine from their wine list. It came with a long stemmed wine glass. I poured my wine and took a sip as I waited for my food to arrive.
The service was quite quick. I had ordered a few vegetarian options. So the first thing to come out was the mapo tofu (I also had this in Ancestral Restaurant at 35 Riccarton Road Christchurch). It was soft and just melted in my mouth and the spicy sauce tasted great.
The next thing to arrive was the garlic bokchoy. This was a very light dish. It was just some bokchoy and carrots sautéed with garlic and I quickly devoured it. I thought it was a simple but nice vegetarian option.
The sweet and sour pork also had a lot of vegetables like onions, carrots, peppers and peas (like in Panda Restaurant Oamaru). It had just the right amount of sweet and sour taste without being overwhelming. I spooned some of the pork onto my plate, along with the vegetables.
I had also ordered some yang zhou fried rice so that I could eat it with my main dishes. The rice was presented in an upside down bowl shape on the plate. It had been tossed with some vegetables and soy sauce and it was the perfect complement to the other dishes.
Menu of Lake View Seafood Restaurant Wanaka
The menu of the Lake View Seafood Restaurant was large and it had a lot of options. I scanned through the whole menu, trying to decide what I wanted to eat.
There was an allergen notice at the front so that people who were allergic could inform the restaurant staff. Some of the options were different kinds of soups, dumplings and cutlets.
Then I turned the page and found all the meat dishes. There was venison or lamb, beef and chicken. The menu also had pictures matching the dishes so customers knew what they were ordering.
Dishes like roast duck, pork ribs with plum sauce and the roast pork and tofu hot pot looked interesting. There were so many options that I struggled to choose.
It was a seafood restaurant and dishes like oyster, lobster, scampi and prawns were also available. Even though I wasn’t in the mood for seafood, it still looked very delicious.
I saw some unusual dishes like steamed salmon, steamed lobster and poached fish fillets.
Along with scallops and eggs, I finally found the page with the rice and noodle dishes (I remember I had some delicious noodles in Shanghai Restaurant, Riccarton Road Christchurch).
Singapore fried noodle and chow mein were some of the other options. There were even a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu.
Mapo tofu, hot and spicy beans and vegetables with cashew nuts were just some of the things customers could order.
A banquet menu had options where you could order for three or four or five people.
There was a separate menu for drinks, as you can see above.
Not only were there many different kinds of wines, there was also a number of beers on offer.
Finally, I found the dessert menu and the non-alcoholic drinks at the back.
