A tea break is an absolute must when you’re travelling and sightseeing in a strange city. So when I became hungry in Kyoto, I decided to stop at a café. And when you have a café as cute as the · DOT Café at your disposal, you’re sure to spend a pleasant half an hour eating and drinking away.

I looked in through the large windows and was impressed by the number of drinks and creative donuts that were on offer. There were pictures and menu cards pinned to the windows of the café and I couldn’t wait to try some things. I was having sweet cravings.

I sat down at a wooden table and began browsing the menu straightaway. What should I choose? There were so many options.

From strawberry and chocolate milk to tea latte and caramel latte, the range of drinks was immense. The regular donuts included custard, matcha and banana.

Then there were all the specials on the menu. The seasonal menu included pumpkin cream donuts and apple cinnamon donuts and toast. The donuts were 380 Yen each and the toast was 430 Yen.

It wasn’t just sweet stuff! For people who liked savory food, they also had egg burgers served in soft buns. The other option was the DOT burger, which was a bacon and chicken patty burger.

I had never seen a burger that looked like a donut but they looked incredible.

Apart from that, there was blueberry and cream cheese toast and garlic toast. These were proclaimed to be some of the most popular items. I also saw something called ribbon churro, which were churros shaped like bows.

I resisted digging into my food so that I could first take a picture.

The drinks were smooth and creamy with lots of foamy milk. Both the matcha and chocolate flavors were intense. The donuts weren’t too sweet and the toast had a nice blend of sweetness and tartness.

The custard and chocolate donuts had been properly stuffed and the cream simply oozed out as soon as I took a bite. I was so glad I had stopped at · DOT Café.
