Fergbaker: A Taste of the Most Famous Pies and Pastries in Queenstown
Right next to the famous Fergburger, there was a bakery called Fergbakery. It was run by the same company and their pies and pastries were just as famous as their burgers. I decided to check out the bakery since I was already in the area.
The bakery looked really old-fashioned and charming. There were wooden shelves and cabinets everywhere and the counter had glass panels and windows. Customers could look at the pastries and decide what they wanted before ordering (this is in Queenstown by the way).
There were people lined up outside the bakery with pastries and pies in their hands. There were young children and adults all standing around. It was really crowded. I was sure that the food must be really good. I could even see a sign for gelato in one corner so the bakery served ice cream too.
The first thing that I saw was a bakery case filled with sweet treats. There was carrot cake, chocolate cake, orange flourless cake, lemon meringue pie, white chocolate cheesecake, caramel eclairs, chocolate eclairs and fresh cream donuts.
Some of the other options were brownies, Boston cream donuts and mini tarts. The mini tarts looked really good and they were decorated beautifully.
The bakery also had chocolate donuts and sprinkle donuts. But the bakery didn’t just have sweets. They also had savory dishes like bagels, pizza slices, vegetable Danishes and prosciutto Danishes.
In another bakery case, I could see all kinds of sandwiches. Fergbakery had ham and cheese croissants, smoked salmon bagels, BBQ brisket sandwich, prosciutto sandwich and vegetarian options like Mexican bean wraps and quinoa and black bean sandwiches. There were so many options that I didn’t know what to choose.
I first ordered a coffee, which was quickly served to me in a paper cup. The cup had the logo of Fergbakery on it and the coffee was nice and warm.
Menu of Fergbaker
Fergbakery served all kinds of tea and coffee, including espressos, cappuccinos, flat whites and even chai lattes. The coffee was served in a regular sized cup or a large cup. Customers could choose to add syrup or an extra shot or even get some alternative, dairy-free milk for some extra charge.
Not only did Fergbakery have hot coffee, they also had options for cold coffee with gelato ice cream. Some other options were a selection of teas like peppermint, chamomile, English breakfast or Earl Grey and a special Belgian hot chocolate. Customers could choose to add chili to their hot chocolate.
I looked at the list of pies that Fergbakery sold and which they were famous for. I had heard that the steak, mushroom and blue cheese pie was especially good. But they had a lot of interesting combinations like chili beef and cheese or venison and portabello mushroom and vegetarian lentil and mushroom bolognaise.
They also had sausage rolls and apple pie.
The pies were their specialty and they were very reasonably priced.
I also looked at all the sandwich options on the menu. There were a lot of choices, like pastrami bagel, roast chicken or bacon and egg.
