My stay in Chongqing was absolutely memorable and a good part of it was thanks to my stay at The Humble River View Hotel (this is different from Ashan River View Hotel where I also stayed). Accessible on the 46th floor of the Xinhua International building, the hotel managed to impress me not just with its rooms’ views but also with the quality of its amenities and services. I was able to book two rooms for my stay and I’ll be talking about these in detail in this article. So if you’re ready then scroll down now!

The Humble River View Hotel Chongqing: Rooms With Amazing Views of the City
This is the sight you’ll come across once you’ve reached the 46th floor. There’s a sign with the name of the hotel and beneath it is an arrow pointing to the reception area. One of the things that really stood out to me was the hotel’s retro theme.
Here are a couple of vinyl records on the wall in the hallway leading up to the reception area. I’m not sure if it’s just for the aesthetics or if the interior designer is a big fan but I really liked how there’s like about 2 or 3 records each of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn.

This is the reception area and let me tell you, it’s one of the most laid back and chill reception areas I’ve ever had the chance to be in. It’s not fancy but it felt surprisingly homey.
For some reason, this area actually reminded me of a Western-style modern kitchen. Most likely it’s thanks to that kitchen table counter which also adds a lot of homey vibes to the place.

Here’s a closer look at the counter which also has some snacks and a couple of cups that you can use to fix yourself a cup of coffee or tea. It’s not pictured but there are dispensers off to the left for hot water. If tea and coffee aren’t for you then you can help yourself to some soft drinks from that fridge in the back.
A couple of steps to the right of the fridge (if you’re facing it) is this area that has some jars of what seems to be herbs. More importantly though is the plaques behind these jars. From what I can understand these are plaques for the CTrip Travelers’ Choice List. For those unfamiliar with it, CTrip or Trip.com is China’s largest online travel agency (similar to Klook or TripAdvisor) and being recognized by this platform is kind of a big deal.
One thing that I also liked about this lobby is these long sofa chairs that were quite comfortable to sit in. And if you look to your right when sitting here, you can get to enjoy the Chongqing skyline.
Perhaps one of the most interesting features of the hotel is its reception. Again, it looks very homey and were it not for the fact that I had a view of the city below, I would’ve thought I was in some quaint and rustic inn.
Here’s a closer look at the CTrip Travelers’ Choice List awards that the hotel got. As you can see, it managed to get the award in both 2023 and 2024. To the right of the awards is another CTrip certificate recognizing the hotel (Google Lens translates it to ‘Excellent Internet Practice Hotel’).
Now this one is interesting. I had already come across robot servers in Japan but those were at restaurants. This might be the first time I saw one in a hotel. Much like the ones I saw in Japan, this cute little guy is also utilized for food deliveries to guests’ rooms.
270 ° Sky Curtain Monument To The People’s Liberation River View Private Bath Suite
For this trip I decided to book two rooms for me and my companions. The first room is the 270° Sky Curtain Monument To The People’s Liberation River View Private Bath Suite. While I understand that the name of the suite is a bit long winded, everything else that it offered was actually stellar.
Here is the console for controlling the lights as well as the air conditioning for the room. This is pretty much de rigueur for a lot of modern hotels in this day and age.
Now this was one of the most comfortable beds that I’ve ever laid my body on. The foam was soft yet still firm enough to still be comfortable for my back. Moreover, I liked how well lit the bedroom area is though if you’re not too keen on the illumination you could always change the settings in the console we saw earlier.
While the amenities of this suite are commendable, the reason you really want to be here is the view. As its name implies, the suite has a 270° panoramic view of the city below. I love that there are also lounge chairs here that you can sit on if you do want to spend some time enjoying the scenery from here.
If sitting on a chair isn’t your thing then would sitting on a bathtub while looking down on the cityscape below interest you? Because you could totally do that here you know. Just next to the lounge chairs was this bathtub where you could soak and relax as you took in the sights of the Jiefangbei CBD (where the Chongqing Liberation Square and Bayi Food Street are also located) and the Yangtze River.
Now I understand that not everyone might be comfortable bathing in the living room. If you’re one of those people then no need to worry as the suite does have a reasonably large bathroom. I’m not too sure but I think this was one of the larger hotel bathrooms that I’ve ever been in (just like in my room at The Westin Chongqing Liberation Square Hotel or at the Ascott Raffles City Chongqing).
Now the bathroom might be large but it’s actually not that ostentatious (likely in keeping with the retro theme). The design of the tiles are rather plain though they do kind of complement the brass wash basin/sink. Also, it’s probably just me but I didn’t really like how the mirror is kind of titled from this view.
Here are the complimentary toiletries that the hotel provides for its guests. There’s these really cute looking toothbrushes and surprisingly they also included a small tube of toothpaste. Aside from these, I also got some Q-tips, combs, and even a shaver. Like with other hotels though, I really didn’t find any need for these as I already brought my own.
What’s another word for plain? Seriously though, I’m not sure if this was by design but I still appreciate how the sign somehow perfectly describes my thoughts about the bathroom.
Believe me, I was also confused as to why this holder for the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash has Yoho Hotel written on it. My guess is that it probably was taken from an older hotel to reinforce the retro theme of this one.
You’ll find this laundry box just outside the bathroom. Now if you want, you can actually have your clothes laundered as the hotel offers daily housekeeping for the suite. Just make you empty your pockets and that no valuables are included in your laundry.
I’ve always wondered if kids these days would know what a rotary dial telephone was if they saw it. This one is surprisingly still functional though I’m not sure if it was recently made or a bona fide ‘antique’ relic of the pre-2000s.
Here’s an outlet and light switches that you’ll find on the left side of the bed (if you’re facing it). If I’m not mistaken, the outlet is a Type I while the switches control the lights around the bedroom area.
Here’s another set of complimentary items provided for by the hotel. Nothing particularly exciting with these but still welcome as I was a little thirsty.
This was by far one of the healthiest complimentary snacks that I got from a hotel. Initially I was confused as to why they chose fruits out of all things to serve their guests. Then I realized that Chongqing is actually known for its fruit (and especially citrus) production.
It’s kind of hazy thanks to the glass but believe me, this was such an awesome sight to behold every night (even if I can’t see the Chopstick Building in Hongyadong from here!). The city just exuded this energy that is palpable yet also hard to explain.
「JiangYu Cloud」 ·Sky Curtain Monument To The People’s Liberation Night View
The other room that I decided to book was the 「JiangYu Cloud」 ·Sky Curtain Monument To The People’s Liberation Night View. Again, the room’s name is a handful though unlike the other suite, it’s much smaller. With that said, smaller doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s inferior.
The bed is equally as comfortable and you could pretty much expect a good night’s sleep here. Lighting is also adequate and if you noticed the image earlier, this one has under the bed lights.
One of the major differences between this room and the previous one is the amenities. This room has noticeably fewer bedside tables though it still does feature controls for lighting and an outlet. The rotary dial telephone is also here though in a different color than the one in the other room.
Just a couple of steps away from the bed is the rack for hanging your clothes (along with some hangers). If there’s one thing I would’ve wanted though it would be for this area to be closed off or maybe even integrated inside the bathroom. That said, it was not really that big of an issue and with how busy our group ended up being, we actually forgot about this gripe.
Right next to the clothes hanger is the wash basin/sink. Much like with the clothes hanger, I would have preferred this area to be closed off from the bed (which you can see from the reflection on the mirror) area. Anyway, this was where housekeeping placed the complimentary toiletries.
Unlike the other room, this one’s bath isn’t as large. It still is pretty spacious but it does kind of pale compared to the other room. That said, it does feature a similar color scheme and the use of tiles for both flooring and the walls.
Whereas the other bathroom had ‘Modest’ as a design on its walls, this one has ‘Leisure’ instead. Again, I’m not quite sure if this has any connection to the hotel’s theme. There’s a certain charm to it though and it’s not like you’ll be looking up at it all the time.
So I’m not gonna lie, the toilet bowl here is pretty milquetoast. There’s really not much I can say about it other than it’s quite comfortable to sit in. If I had to voice a gripe though it would be that the toilet paper dispenser is a little far from the seat. Technically it’s still within reach but I would have preferred it was closer by maybe a foot or two.
Here’s the shower area and much like the toilet area, there’s not much here to write home about. Okay, yeah the sign here is kind of hard to decipher. My thinking was that they probably meant to write ‘Diverse’? The confusing sign aside, bathing here was still a comfortable experience.
Remember when I said earlier that despite being smaller, the room is still nice? Well, the view really hard carries this room. I think I can actually sit here all night long and just marvel at how ‘alive’ this city looks and feels. Of course, I wouldn’t advise you to stay up all night as you might not have the energy to explore this beautiful city during the day (and there’s a lot to explore here).
And aside from great tourist spots, they also have many nice restaurants here like Dim Dou Duk. You can read about my dining experience in this restaurant in this article.
Much like the other room, this one also has complimentary snacks in the form of these fruits. I actually ended up liking the Hami melon and the sweetness and tanginess of the lemon was just right for my tastes.
Overall, I think my stay here at Humble River View Hotel was worth it. The rooms that I booked both had really great views while also featuring comfortable beds to sleep and rest in. They’re not perfect but at around $100 and $180 (prior to discounts) a night for the Jiangyu Cloud and 270° Sky Curtain Monument respectively, I think these rooms were worth it.
With this, my review of Humble River View Hotel Chongqing ends. Stay tuned though as I still have plenty of stories to tell about my recent adventure in China.
