Miss Purple Studio Oamaru: Experience Steampunk Lifestyle
One of the most interesting places that I went to while I was in Oamaru was the Miss Purple Studio (besides the Buggy Robot Gallery I guess). There was a large red sign at the entrance that said, “Miss Purple welcomes you to steampunk central in our Victorian precinct.” Oamaru was famous for the steampunk lifestyle.
As soon as I went inside, I could see that the studio was really special (just like the Poshtel Oamaru, the place where I stayed here). There were plants and clothes and things hanging from the wall. I decided to walk around the room and look at things more carefully.
On one of the walls, there were old photographs and posters that had been stuck there. Banners hung near the ceiling and I could see jackets and skirts hanging from clothes hangers. A pair of double doors led towards another room. Old fashioned lamps had been fixed on the wall above the doors.
There were really nice carpets on the floor of the studio. An old cycle with wooden seats and handles was leaning against one wall. There was an old leather bag hanging from the cycle. There were posters of Victorian soldiers on the walls and also clothes hanging from hooks.
I went to a series of shelves. They were filled with books and magazines. Some of them were old and some of the books were modern ones. I even found two vintage fashion magazines on the bottom shelf.
Right next to the bookshelf, there was a jewelry case behind some glass cabinets. The case was filled with pairs of earrings.
The other corner of this room was really packed. There was a flat case filled with little items in the middle. Paintings were hanging on the walls. Hats and vintage caps hung from antler shaped hooks and there was a clothing rack filled with clothes hangers. Jackets, skirts and other clothes were hanging from the rack.
The studio had hung some decorative pieces in front of a window. They were made with colorful pieces of glass and crystals. It looked pretty with the sunshine reflecting off the crystals.
On another wall, there was a board filled with decorative hooks. The hooks were made with wrought iron and they had many interesting designs. There were lamps and tea sets on the shelf under the board. I also saw two colorful necklaces on a shelf. Bookmarks with flower patterns on them were also available.
I found another glass cabinet with all kinds of jewelry inside. Earrings, necklaces, keyrings and pendants were all lying inside the cabinet. There was a sign in front that asked customers to buy New Zealand goods. I could see an antique looking mirror, some tea cups and a lamp on top of the glass cabinet.
Finally, I went to the actual studio area at the back. The whole place had red velvet curtains hanging around it and there was a red carpet on the floor. A very strange looking chair with antlers on it was in one corner. There were barrels and pirate caps in another corner. A bench, a wooden chest and a huge carving of an old man’s face were some of the other interesting things.
