Fergburger: Queenstown’s Most Famous Burger Joint
Since I was in Queenstown, I decided that I would have a meal at the famous Fergburger in Queenstown (the company which owns this business also has a bakery named Fergbaker). There was so much hype and excitement about the burger joint and it really was one of the most famous restaurants in the city. There are always long queues. I had to wait a little to get my meal. There was a door with the Fergburger logo at the entrance of the shop.
I studied the logo as I waited in line. It had the face of a bearded man inside a circle. The word ‘Fergburger’ was printed at the top of the circle and the words ‘Queenstown New Zealand’ were printed at the bottom. I knew that they were a gourmet burger restaurant and not a chain restaurant. So there was only one Ferburger restaurant.
Then I reached the counter and gave my order. I soon had my burger in my hand. The restaurant staff put the burger in a brown paper bag and handed it over to me. It was fresh and hot and I was so excited to try it!
I had ordered the famous Fergburger. It was their signature burger and it had a beef patty. The burger was wrapped in paper. I could easily hold it in my hand and eat it without making a mess. I took it out of the paper bag and immediately took a photo. It looked delicious.
There was a cute little quote on the wrapping warning the customers not to take it off.
Apart from the beef patty, the burger also had a lot of lettuce, tomato, red onion, tomato relish and aioli. It was saucy without being too messy or too big to eat!
I was really excited to get started on my burger.
I had also decided to order a side of French Fries. The fries were warm, golden brown in color and perfectly crispy. Customers could decide what kind of sauce they wanted to order with their French Fries. The choices were aioli, BBQ or wasabi mayonnaise among others. I decided to order the sweet chili sauce. It complimented the French Fries very well.
The menu had been stuck on the wall so that customers could decide before they went to order at the counter. Some of the options were burgers with beef patties or with high country lamb, slow roasted pork belly or chicken tenderloins. There were even burgers that had wild deer meat or South Coast Blue Cod in them. I was impressed that they had vegan falafel and tofu options as well as breakfast burgers with bacon and egg. Sides included fries, onion rings and squid.
On the other side of the room was another copy of the menu, this time printed on a large circular board. I found the names of the burgers, like the Bullseye, Holier Than Thou, The Codfather and The Morning Glory very funny. Fergburger even had gluten-free buns for any customers who had gluten allergies. Customers could also speak to the staff if they had any other dietary restrictions.
