Selfie Panda at Yangtianwo Square Chengdu: A Very Unique Giant Statue

Yangtianwo Square Chengdu

I visited Yangtianwo Square in Chengdu (By the way, I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and Wanda Reign Hotel during my visit here.) so that I could see the famous Selfie Panda that was in the middle of the square. The square was pretty large and I could see mountains in the background.

The square was in the center of Dujiangyan City, which was just a short distance away from Chengdu City Center.

Yangtianwo Square wasn’t too crowded

Yangtianwo Square wasn’t too crowded. There were only a few people walking around (just like when I went to Tianfu Square in Chengdu). I went towards the Panda.

It was a giant statue of a panda holding a selfie stick. All the people standing around the panda looked absolutely tiny.

some little stalls that had been built along the side of the square

There were even some little stalls that had been built along the side of the square, in case tourists wanted to buy food or other things.

One leg was raised and was resting on top of a building

The panda looked so cute! One leg was raised and was resting on top of a building. It was lying on the grass and holding the selfie stick up with one arm in front of its face.

I walked all around the Selfie Panda and took pictures from different angles. There were also signboards with pandas on it all around the giant Selfie Panda.

I had to look up to see the top of its head and ears

I went near the head of the panda and realized just how big it was. I had to look up to see the top of its head and ears.

Visitors weren’t allowed on the grass so we had to keep some distance. I could see tiny white flowers growing on the grass.

It was also one of the largest statues I had ever seen

The Selfie Panda was really one of the most unique things I had ever seen in my life. It was also one of the largest statues I had ever seen.

Even the smartphone and the pink selfie stick that the panda was holding were huge!

signboard with a little story about the panda

There was a signboard with a little story about the panda. It was written in both English and in Mandarin. It was supposed to be a commentary on selfie culture and about how much importance modern people gave to their smartphones. You could scan the signboard to take an actual selfie with the panda on the giant smartphone.

People were even taking pictures with proper cameras and huge lenses

I walked around the other side of the panda. People were even taking pictures with proper cameras and huge lenses. It wasn’t just people posing with their smartphones.

sky was pretty cloudy that day

The sky was pretty cloudy that day. I wished that the sun was out. It would make my pictures even prettier. And it would really look like the Selfie Panda was sunbathing on the grass.

It looked quite realistic

I looked up at the Selfie Panda one last time before leaving. It looked quite realistic. I could even see all the fur on the body.

I was glad that I had visited this unique place
