Tianfu Square:  Relaxing Walk in One of the Most Important Places in Chengdu

Tianfu Square Chengdu

When I went for a walk in Tianfu Square, I was shocked at the sight of all the beautiful flowers! I knew that Tianfu Square was one of the most important places in Chengdu (similar to the Chongqing Liberation Square) so I just had to go and see it.

The square was surrounded by all these tall skyscrapers with large glass windows. The windows reflected all the buildings in the surrounding area. There was also a large fountain in the middle of the square with a spiral structure at the center.

The sky was mostly clear that day even though I could still see some clouds drifting around. People were walking around the square. There were both tourists and locals and no one really seemed to be in a hurry. I could even see some people standing around and chatting.

There was a sort of memorial in the middle which spoke about the happiness of the people and the fair rule of law. I knew that the name ‘Tianfu’ meant ‘the gift of heaven’ or ‘the land of abundance’ so Tianfu Square was very significant for Chengdu.

There was an upper deck area from which you could look down at the square and the fountain. The fountain wasn’t on during the day.

Sichuan Science and Technology museum

On one end of the square was the Sichuan Science and Technology museum. There was a huge statue of Chairman Mao Zedong right in front of the museum. It was a completely white statue and he was wearing an overcoat. I had heard that it was the second largest statue of Chairman Mao Zedong in China.

different art installations in Tianfu Square

There were a lot of different art installations in Tianfu Square. The square had been a cultural and political center for a very long time and I could see why. There were also other important buildings around the square, like the Chengdu Museum.

I saw the fountain start

Soon, I saw the fountain start. It wasn’t lit up yet but the water had started.

I looked up at a very tall pillar in one corner of the square. It was a striking green and gold in color and had a lot of writing on it. It spoke about the ancient history and cultural heritage of the area.

There were a lot of cars on the roads around Tianfu Square and visitors had to be careful while crossing the streets.
