The Terminus Hotel Dunedin: A Grand and Majestic Place With a Long History
The outside of The Terminus Hotel in Dunedin looked very grand and majestic. It had three floors and the main entrance was very elegant.
The first thing I saw was a framed newspaper piece about the hotel.
The front room had walls of exposed brick and floors of wood. A wooden staircase led upstairs.
There were other newspaper articles about The Terminus Apartments.
I could see black and white photographs of Dunedin and the building from older days.
The hotel had stored some bicycles under the stairs.
Apart from the stairs, there was also an elevator that could take guests up to the upper floors.
I decided to take the elevator to get to my rooms quickly and easily.
Room 1
I had been given two rooms. I checked out my first room with excitement.
The first thing that I noticed was a bowl beside the door which held a pack of playing cards and a pack of Uno cards.
Underneath that, there were some coffee table books about New Zealand architecture on a shelf.
The kitchen was quite big and spacious. There was even an island with a sink and a clean work surface.
It was a double sink so I could wash all my plates and dishes and cutlery if I wanted to.
Opposite the sink was the stove. It had four burners and four knobs.
There was also a block of knives, a toaster and an electric kettle set up next to the stove.
I pulled open the drawers underneath. The first drawer was a cutlery drawer, filled with knives, forks and spoons.
The second drawer held cooking tools like spatulas, whisks, potato mashers, vegetable peelers and other necessary things.
The drawer underneath that held plain white crockery. There were dinner plates, quarter plates, serving bowls and mugs.
Finally, I pulled out the bottommost drawer and found a baking dish, a sieve, a measuring cup, a cheese grater and a roll of aluminum foil.
To my surprise, I opened the fridge and found that it wasn’t empty. There was some food inside like a bowl of apples and a carton of milk.
I even found some jam sachets and a plastic box with some multigrain bread inside the fridge (by the way, one of the best place to eat here in Dunedin is the Vanguard Specialty Café).
Then I decided to look inside the cabinets above the stove. I found some glasses in one of the cabinets.
The oven was underneath the stove (just like on the room I stayed at Mt Cook Lodge and Motels) and had a kitchen towel hanging from the handle.
The apartment even had a first aid box tucked away in a cupboard.
A teapot and four colorful mugs had been placed on a shelf above the microwave.
And I found basics like salt, pepper, olive oil, coffee and paper towels in another cupboard.
Other things the apartment had provided were a large salad bowl and a sandwich maker.
There were frying pans and large pots.
There was even a dishwasher in the kitchen.
I opened it and found that it was quite easy to use.
Cleaning supplies and a waste paper basket had been stored under the sink.
The living area had a large screen TV and a bean bag to lounge on.
There was an L-shaped couch and a dining table too.
The apartment had long but narrow windows.
I opened a box and found a number of toys inside.
Big books had been kept on the shelves underneath the TV.
The TV remote and Firestick had been carefully laid out.
There was another pack of Uno cards and some children’s toys in a drawer.
The dining table could seat three people.
I found a rulebook about the hotel inside a drawer.
Then I went into the bathroom.
Not only did the bathroom have large towel racks, it even had a washer and clothes dryer.
The dryer was on top, right next to the door.
The washing machine was underneath the dryer. I would easily be able to wash my dirty clothes.
Right next to that was a towel rack where bath towels were hanging.
There was a heater inside the bathroom so it wouldn’t get cold.
The shower area was to one side. It was a little narrow but there was a convenient hand shower.
The basin was pretty big and had an exhaust fan above it.
I found a few sachets of body soap in a bowl on the washbasin.
There was also a bottle of lime zest flavored handwash.
Underneath the basin were extra rolls of toilet paper and a hairdryer.
The bedroom was small but cozy. There was a double bed and a desk and chair.
It had a full wall of exposed brick.
There were nightstands on either side of the bed and extra towels had been left on the bed.
The desk had a large TV and a reading lamp on top of it.
One nightstand had a digital alarm clock.
The closet was pretty spacious with enough room to hang up my coats and other clothes. It held an iron and an ironing board.
There was also a heater inside the closet.
I found extra blankets and drying racks inside.
Another thick blanket was tucked away on the top shelf.
A folding ladder could be used to get into the garret upstairs. That was really interesting.
Room 2
The second room also had a comfortable gray couch in the living area.
There was another three person dining table beside the fireplace.
A heater and some lamps had been placed around the fireplace.
A large TV was mounted on the wall opposite the sofa and a wooden coffee table was in between the two.
Two doors led to the bedroom and bathroom from the living area. There was a bookshelf with toys and books in between the two rooms.
The kitchen area in the second apartment was just as clean and well-stocked as in the first apartment.
The double bed in the second room had been placed against an exposed brick wall. A rug was on the floor next to the bed.
This room had a huge window with a view of the main street outside. It was pretty late so the streets were a little empty. But I could still see some cars driving by.
A pair of glass doors led out to a balcony. The balcony also had a view of the street in front.
The bookshelf outside the bedroom held a large chess set. Some of the other items on the shelves were coffee table books, novels and even some magazines. There was a clock on the wall above.
I went into the second bathroom. It was just as spacious and big as the first bathroom.
There was a large wall mirror above the washbasin. That would be very convenient for getting ready in the morning.
A glass partition separated the shower area from the rest of the bathroom so that water wouldn’t spill everywhere.
An exhaust and a towel rack had been placed right opposite the wash basin. The staff had already hung towels from the rack.
The second bathroom also had a clothes dryer so I could wash and dry any dirty laundry.
Underneath the dryer was the washing machine. It was a top loading machine.
Handwash, sachets of body soap and a box of tissues were placed around the washbasin for the convenience of the guests.
