I Found Uncle Roger Fried Rice at KLIA2 Airport

I Found Uncle Roger Fried Rice at KLIA2 Airport

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past couple of years then you’re probably familiar with internet personality Nigel “Uncle Roger” Ng. He’s become a pretty huge name on social media thanks to his funny reaction style content poking fun at celebrities trying (and failing) to cook Asian cuisine. Now he’s actually translated this success with a restaurant called Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger. Aptly named after his famous catch phrase, the restaurant actually has 5 outlets/branches. With that said, is the food actually any good?

Uncle Roger Fried Rice at KLIA2 Airport: Nice Meals at Reasonable Prices

Fuiyoh! It's Uncle Roger

Luckily for me, I actually managed to come across the KLIA2 Airport branch and decided to give it a try. This branch is specifically found at the airport’s Food District which itself is on the 3rd Level of the Departure Hall (see image above).

Fuiyoh! It's Uncle Roger KLIA2

What’s great about this specific branch is that it’s open 24/7. Considering this is an international airport, I think this availability is quite understandable. As for the ambiance, it was quite nice. I liked how well lit the place was. With that said, I don’t also think it was anything to write home about.

Uncle Roger himself

Here’s Uncle Roger himself welcoming me to his restaurant! Kidding aside, I am genuinely impressed at how Uncle Roger managed to turn his virality from roasting chefs cooking Asian dishes to now actually running a chain of restaurants himself.

signs that you might want to read before getting your order

Anyway, here are some signs that you might want to read before getting your order. The sign on the right just advertises a new menu item called Raya Fried Rice while the one on the left is a warning against bringing in outside food, alcohol, and trolleys inside of the restaurant.

counter

It wasn’t a busy day so the line at the counter was relatively fast. One thing I also noticed aside from the place being well lit is that it was actually quite expansive.

menu

You know what else is expansive? This is the menu here and I must say, this actually has a decent albeit limited selection of food items. With that said, I do kind of prefer this rather than having to choose from a million different items. The fried rice is the star of the show here and I ended up choosing the Non-spicy Uncle Roger’s Egg Fry Rice for RM16.

menu for drinks

Aside from the fried rice and bite-sized viands, there’s also a menu for drinks. Some of the notable items here include Uncle Roger’s Favourite (Perfumed Iced Lemon Tea), Currant Crush, Passionista, and Iced White Coffee. For dessert, you can opt for a number of Ice Cream orders such as Ice Cream with Brownies and a Bandung flavored ice cream called Pink-Yo! Ice Cream (just to name a few).

other stalls

Other than Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger, the Food District also has other stalls/restaurants (like AirAsia’s Santan) that might also be worth checking out (or you can also go to KLIA2’s Plaza Premium Lounge for some great meal before your flight). Since I really wasn’t that hungry I just settled down after I got my order.

Non Spicy Uncle Roger’s Egg Fry Rice

Speaking of orders, this is the Non Spicy Uncle Roger’s Egg Fry Rice that I was talking about. It cost RM 16 and I ended up pairing it with a Spritzer worth RM3.90. In total I paid around RM 21.90 (including service fee of around RM 2) for the meal.

Now I did like the taste of the fried rice (it tastes great just like the one they serve at the breakfast buffet in JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur) and as you can see from the image above, the serving size is actually quite alright. With that said, I do realize that the taste might not be for everyone. Generally speaking though, the fried rice was tasty and more importantly, the egg was cooked just the way I wanted it (crunchy on the bottom but with the yolk still runny). I wouldn’t recommend booking a flight to Malaysia just to try it but if you do find yourself in KLIA2 then maybe give it a try.
