While I don’t think it’s as impressive as the Three Natural Bridges in Wulong, Wujiang Gallery Scenic Spot still might be a nice place to visit when you’re in Chongqing. Much like its name implies, it features some really scenic vistas that I think you’ll enjoy especially if you’re into photography. Perhaps the best thing about this location is that there isn’t any overly long trail you’ll have to walk on to enjoy the views.
Wujiang Gallery Scenic Spot Chongqing: Enjoy Scenic Views and Peaceful Vibes
Getting to Wujiang Gallery is relatively easy though it is rather far from the city proper. That said, it’s also quite popular so there’s a plethora of vehicles that you can take to get there. Quite possibly the easiest would be high speed rail though if you’re with a tour group then your guide will probably have the mode of transportation covered. Anyway, once you get here you’ll probably come across this iconic installation that has Chinese characters that read Wujiang Hualang (or Wujiang Gallery).
I was pretty surprised that there weren’t that many people when I got here. The area was oddly quiet which stood in stark contrast to the videos I saw of it on YouTube. That said, I actually kind of liked the peaceful vibes from the absence of other tourists as I felt like I had the whole place to myself.
The lack of noise from other tourists also made me appreciate the views here even more. This one in particular shows a portion of the river with a karst cliff in the background. I’m not sure if you can see it from this image but the karst formation here is just impressive. Much like with the views in Wulong, this scene reminded me of the Alps and the Grand Canyon (both of which are popular for their karst landscapes).

Here’s another striking view of the cliff on the opposite bank. Looking back now, I don’t think the pictures really did justice to this view. In person, this was much more awe-inspiring and you could actually faintly hear the sound of the river flowing from this vantage point.
Speaking of the Wujiang River, I think there are boat cruises here that you might also want to check out. I saw some entries on Trip.com for a couple of cruises that could take you to Gongtan Town (another scenic town) as well. This area actually has a boatload (pun intended) of attractions and activities that I unfortunately wasn’t able to check out. Hopefully I can get back here some other time to then explore these other areas.
Now if you stroll around Wujiang Gallery, you’re likely going to come across this map. This is a map of Chongqing’s Fuling District which also happens to be where you can find the Wujiang Gallery. Other than this location, the map also highlights other areas with scenic views that might be worth going to.

This is the area atop of the viewdeck that has covered walkways. The particular area here is the Tourism Information Service Point which functions mainly to help tourists. Since I was rather early here though, the staff manning this spot were still missing in action. That said, there’s really not a lot to do here other than to take in the views so I didn’t see any issues with this.
Here you can see the viewdeck which honestly looks really nice. If you want to take a closer look at the river and the cliff at the opposite bank then I’d highly recommend going down there. From the viewdeck you’d also get to see the top of the trees on this side of the river bank.
If you turn to the left of the viewdeck then you’ll see this other view of the river and the opposite bank. I’m not sure if you’re able to see it from this image but there’s also a town off in the distance with a port that has a couple of boats anchored. Now, those boats actually got me curious and I did eventually get a closer look at them a bit later on.
Before I went and looked closer at those boats, I decided to continue observing the pavilions here. This one in particular was really nice since it had long benches where you could then opt to sit to either appreciate the river view (on the left of the image) or the tree garden (on the right).
So there’s something interesting in this image that you probably haven’t noticed. If you zoom in a little, you’ll notice a red and white column in the opposite bank. Now I was initially stumped as to what that was. When I then searched it up, I found out that it was actually a navigation marker.
Again, if you look closely you’ll see another navigation marker here. So these actually indicate that the waters here are safe for boats to pass through. According to my research, the waters of Wujiang River historically had rapids and submerged rocks. However, dredging and blasting in the 20th century have made the river friendlier to boat traffic (both the cargo and passenger kind).
Oh look, there’s a goat grazing here. This is still pretty much a rural area like Wulong so it’s understandable seeing animals like this goat here. Additionally, I think goats really thrive in areas like this thanks to their physical adaptations (hooves) making it easy for them to navigate/climb up and down the rocky terrain.
I finally got a clearer view of the town and boats that we saw earlier. As you can see, the boats seem to have sand/gravel as their cargo. I’m guessing the dredging and excavating activities in this area are still pretty much active. What I’m unsure of though is how it’ll affect the river’s ecosystem.
While it was short, my visit to Wujiang Gallery Scenic Spot was still very eventful. The views in this area were superb to say the least. Moreover, I didn’t have to spend a dime as entrance to the area is free. If you have time and you have places to visit in Fuling District then you’re definitely going to want to check out this area.
So, ever had the chance to visit Wujiang Gallery Scenic Spot? If yes then hopefully you can share your experiences with us down in the comments!
