The Vienna Hotel right by the train station ended up being just what I was looking for in Nanning: a spot to crash for a single night before taking an early train. It was clean, comfortabley, and nothing fancy but it had surprising thoughtfulness for a quick stopover spot. So here’s what my overnight stay was like and whether I’d recommend it if you’re passing through.

It was getting on into the evening at this point and truth be told, all I really want was a hot shower and a good night’s sleep before catching an early train the next morning. My room turned out to be quite large for a hotel at the station, more than enough room to move about plus a nice desk near the window that offered a view of lit city beyond. As soon as I entered, the comfortable-looking bed called to me and after lying down and giving it a try, it was just as good as it looked.
But what really caught my interest was their attention to detail. There was this Vienna Opera House mural over the bed (which lent the room some character), and night stand had everything within easy-reach. They didn’t just have one of those generic chain hotel rooms but tried to tie things together around a theme.
That makes it less anonymous, and when you’re going to be in a place for a few hours, that’s important.
However, this space really took me by surprise (the bathroom). It was spotless and they has gone for more high-end moddern setup, much more high-end than you would expect from price here. The shower I take that night had good water pressure and the wall mounted dispensers had decent product in them too.
Also, I wasn’t expecting to find a Dyson hair dryer mounted on the wall. But there it was. Still, I was to tired to use it fully.
There was also a fully stocked mini bar with teas to choose from and a kettle. I grabbed one at bedtime and enjoyed a cup of tea; good on you after all the traveling. It had automated LED lights in the closet and everything.
Little things like this showed me they were trying harder then just a crash pad.
The welcome screen on the TV even said it was station hotel, something that, oddly enough, reassured me. This is the sort of thing you want from a hotel: just be close to transportation, don’t try to mess around too much, and know that your customers needs a safe bet. It did its job perfectly.
I had a good night’s sleep, felt refreshed in the morning, and arrived at my train with plenty of time. Overall, as a Vienna Hotel goes, this one in Nanning served it purpose quite well. I would of recommend this hotel for anyone who wants something a bit better than basic but close to the train station in Nanning.
