Ice Bar in Queenstown: A Very Unique Bar Experience
One of the most unique places in Queenstown was the Ice Bar. I had heard that everything was made of ice and I really wanted to go and visit it (In case you’re wondering where’s my accommodation here in Queenstown, I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.).
There were pictures of the kind of alcohol I could buy in the window.
I went inside the bar and found that there were racks filled with jackets. The ice bar was really cold and customers would need to dress warmly (Maybe it would be a good idea to have a hot and spicy Korean Food at Mapo88 Restaurant before going here!).
Apart from the heavy jackets, I could see lots of bottles and glasses arranged on shelves. Thick chunks of wood had been arranged on the shelves too in a decorative manner.
I was excited to see the inside of the ice bar. I had never been to a place like this.
I quickly put on a warm jacket so I wouldn’t feel cold inside. The thick padding would protect me.
There was some extra information about the ice bar at the entrance, along with pictures of penguins and large chunks of ice.
I found out that the temperature of the ice bar ranged from minus seven degrees Celsius to minus fourteen degrees Celsius. The ice was also made with a special process called snap freezing so that it would look very clear.
There was a social media page for the Queenstown Ice Bar so that people could post their pictures and link the pages. There was even a guest Wi-Fi with a password provided.
I also saw some framed signs about wristband perks and with more information about the Ice Bar.
Finally, it was time to enter the actual Ice Bar. There was a big blue door that I needed to open to go into the Ice Bar.
I had been given two cards for the Queenstown Ice Bar. I could get a cocktail and an espresso martini. I had worn thick gloves and was completely covered up so I could enter the Ice Bar safely.
As soon as I entered, I could see huge chunks of ice around me.
The bar was at the end of the room.
The lights changed color quickly, from green to blue and purple. In the bar lighting, the carved ice looked even stranger.
The seats were made of ice and covered with fur.
I walked around and admired the carvings.
The bottles of alcohol were kept on shelves carved of ice.
I looked closely at the bottles.
They were colorful shades of red and green.
Birds carved of ice sat next to the bar.
Their wings had so many details.
A sign made of ice welcomed guests to the Ice Bar.
Even the glasses they served the drinks in were made of ice.
I had never seen anything like this bar.
I waited as the bartender made my drink.
And I just had to get a picture of it from up close.
Only the drink shakers weren’t made of ice.
The always changing colors of the lights gave the bar an exciting appearance.
I could see sculptures of Christmas trees and stars made of ice.
The tables and benches were also beautifully carved from ice.
The chandelier looked very unique. Ice crystals hung upside down from the ceiling.
There were mats on the bar counter so that the glasses wouldn’t slip.
I couldn’t even understand what some of the sculptures were meant to show.
There were ice partitions between the seating areas. Groups of guests could sit and drink in privacy.
There was even a carved torso of a woman. It looked like she was wearing armor.
I hung around the bar for a little and took more pictures of ice glasses.
I also decided to take a picture of the drinks and mixers from up close.
The ice chandelier looked like it was made of glass crystals.
And the Christmas tree was really cute and small.
Many people were coming to the bar, wearing heavy jackets.
Menu of Ice Bar Queenstown
I looked at the menu of the Ice Bar.
There was a variety of mocktails and cocktails.
Their specialty seemed to be espresso martinis but they also had some premier cocktails.
Customers could also choose to have shots.
The last page of the menu had some information about the Ice Bar and how it was made.
