Breakfast at Kai Whakapai Cafe, Wanaka: So Many Fresh and Delicious Options to Choose From

Kai Whakapai Café in Wanaka

I went to have breakfast at Kai Whakapai Café in Wanaka (you can also read my post about Edgewater Hotel Wanaka, my accommodation for this place). It was inside a building called Cluden House and there were tables outside on the street. Each table had a big umbrella over it.

all-day menu

The café had an all-day menu. They also had different kinds of local beer on tap and a happy hour between 5pm and 6pm in the evening. They baked their goodies fresh every morning. All this information was written on a blackboard at the entrance of the café.

beer and wine glasses hanging above the bar

There were beer and wine glasses hanging above the bar. I could see the taps for the different kinds of craft beers behind the bar and many bottles were neatly lined up on the shelves. Since it was morning, there wasn’t anyone at the bar.

cupcakes and pastries sitting inside pastry cases

I saw some tasty looking cupcakes and pastries sitting inside pastry cases on the counter. Behind that was a wall where the names of the local beers had been put up.

Some of the options were Wanaka lager, Kai Time Hazy IPA and Espresso Martini on tap

Some of the options were Wanaka lager, Kai Time Hazy IPA and Espresso Martini on tap. It all looked very interesting.

almond croissants

Then I started looking at the pastry cases. There were so many baked items. The almond croissants looked very good.

scones

Scones like cheese scone and bacon and cheese scones and date and orange scones were some of the other options.

butter croissants and sweet muffins

There were also butter croissants and sweet muffins.

bagels, sandwiches, sausage rolls and cheesecakes

I looked at the bakery options like bagels, sandwiches, sausage rolls and cheesecakes. The food was already starting to sell out.

tropical smoothies and berry smoothies

Kai Whakapai had even got tropical smoothies and berry smoothies prepared and ready to serve.

so many options for breakfast

There were so many options that I could barely choose what to get for breakfast.

corn fritters and veggie rolls

Everything looked fresh and delicious. I knew they must have been prepared that day itself. There were vegetarian options (just like at the Francesca Italian Restaurant) like corn fritters and veggie rolls.

All the dishes had been neatly labelled

All the dishes had been neatly labelled and their prices had been written beside the names.

I looked at all the options

I looked at all the options and tried to decide what to order.

sunny spot

Then I found a sunny spot to sit down. There were big windows in the café and there was plenty of sunshine.

Vietnamese cold brew

The Vietnamese cold brew was strong and topped with whipped cream. It was delicious.

Americano

The Americano was small in size but it was just what I needed. I took small sips as I ate the rest of my breakfast.

egg benedict salmon

I had ordered the egg benedict salmon. I love salmon and the fish was very fresh. The eggs benedict was topped with a smooth and creamy hollandaise sauce.

wild mushroom toast

Finally, the last dish that I had ordered came out. It was presented in a very aesthetic way.

wild mushroom toast again

I had ordered the wild mushroom toast. It had a unique taste and was served with a lovely dressing. There were some whole mushrooms on the side.

Breakfast Menu of Kai Whakapai Café Wanaka

The breakfast menu at the Kai Whakapai Café was just printed on a simple piece of paper. But there were some funny artistic sketches on it.

Each menu item had a little description of ingredients under it

There were some breakfast specials, dishes like brisket hash and English muffins, hot and cold drinks and even some alcoholic beverages like mimosa. Each menu item had a little description of ingredients under it.

breakfast menu was a little limited

The breakfast menu was a little limited and there were only a few food options. But there were lots of specialty drinks like the House Made Sticky Chai, the Strawberry Matcha Cloud and the Lemon and Ginger Fizz that made it worth it. Visitors could also get juices or fizzy drinks.
