Sainte-Chapelle Through My Eyes

Sainte-Chapelle Through My Eyes

Spirituality is something that makes our life peaceful and full of tranquility. I have always had a liking for visiting different chapels and the environment out there soothes my heart. That is the reason that I planned to visit Saint Chappelle.

Saint Chappelle: My Spiritual Journey

However, before my visit to this historical place, I decided to fulfill my caffeine requirement and what would be better than doing it with the help of a chocolate cappuccino at the famous Brasserie Les Deux Palais (Walking Distance from Saint Chappelle).

The creamy and chocolaty version of the coffee was exactly what I needed to start off my day and keep moving.

Along with the boost of caffeine, I also had to intake some protein and the best option I could find on the menu was a cheese omelet with a touch of veggies.

I absolutely loved the breakfast and it made me feel energetic on my way to my destination.

Sainte Chappelle From Outside

Sainte Chappelle From Outside

When I had my first look at this gigantic building from outside, I could easily sense the rich texture of history that is involved with this place.

If you had to explain the Gothic Architecture to anyone, this building is a perfect example of that.

The fantastic architecture and the rich history of this place compelled UNESCO to name it as a world heritage site in the year 1998.

The Inside Of Sainte Chapelle

Inside Of Sainte Chapelle

One of the major attractions and reasons for the popularity of this great Chappelle is how decorated the inside of this Chappelle looks.

As I entered the Chappelle, the intricate designs on the walls just had my heart.

It was such a great mixture of architectural brilliance and spirituality.

Inside the Chappelle, the windows are made up of Stained Glass. However, these windows are not any normal windows, they are special because:

    • They have vibrant colors
    • They have biblical events carved on them in the form of images

Apart from these biblically carved windows, there are two rose windows as well which are present on the north and south sides respectively.

Statues Inside Sainte Chappelle

There are a number of statues present inside the Chappelle as a source of tribute to the great people of history.

The statues involve the statue of virgin Mary, saints, apostles and even the bishops who have given services to the great Sainte Chappelle.

Upper Chapel of Saint Chappelle

Upper Chapel of Saint Chappelle

The upper Chapel of Sainte Chappelle is the epitome of gothic architecture.

It comprises fantastically intricate glass windows and even the stones and pillars at the Chapelle are carved and it is surely a sight to behold.

The most fantastic thing about the architecture is the amazingly built building which keeps the place lighted and looking as luminous as possible.

Floor Of Sainte Chapelle

Floor Of Sainte Chapelle

The most amazing thing about the floor of Sainte Chappelle is that it has withstood the continuous beating of time and it still stands strong and as beautiful as it was hundreds of years ago.

The beautiful geometric designs of mosaic tiles shows the brilliance of architecture back then and also shows how much care was taken of this floor.

A peculiar feature of the mosaic tiles is that they reflect light and it adds to the collective beauty of the Chappelle.

A Touch Of Technology

some biblical scenes are depicted on a computer

There is a touch of technology as well at the Chappelle as some biblical scenes are depicted on a computer that is placed there.

Sometimes a few verses from the bible are played on it and sometimes some pictures are shown.

This screen might act as a kind of a guide for the tourists and it helps them to understand and comprehend the true meaning of the biblical verses.

The Stained Glass Window

Stained Glass Window

There are a number of stained glass windows present at the great Sainte Chappelle and each of them depicts a number of stories from the old and new testaments of the holy bible.

These windows can easily be termed as a 13th century masterpiece as the fantastic colors and their distribution around the Chappelle is only possible because of these gigantic windows.

These windows are surely the heart and soul of Sainte Chapelle.

Statue Of Louis IX

Statue Of Louis IX

The statue of Louis IX stands tall as a symbol of power at the Sainte Chapelle. He was actually the person who gave the permission to build this Chappelle.

The basic aim behind building this Chappelle was to host the crown of thorns which was worn by Jesus Christ at the time of crucifixion.

The statue represents the power of Louis IX as a king but also represents his love for religion and he is one of the very few kings to be canonized and called a saint as well.

All in all, this was a surreal experience for me on all accounts. It revamped my spirituality and I would highly suggest everyone who is in Paris to visit this Gothic brilliance.
