DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Queenstown: Good Location and Excellent Amenities
I stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Queenstown (By the way, I also stayed at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel during my visit to Christchurch, and you can read my review about it here.). It was not near the center of town, and but located near Queenstown airport.
I looked down the street and could see the snowcapped mountains very nearby (and if you’re looking for a nice place to eat Korean Food here in Queenstown, I highly recommend the Mapo88 Restaurant).
It was a pretty large hotel and there was room to park cars in front.
The hotel was located on a slight hill so the road gently curved up along the side of the hotel.
There were a lot of signs hung up on a fence at the parking lot. People who wanted to park their cars in this area would have to pay for their parking.
But I thought it was a good thing that there was such a spacious parking lot right in front of the hotel. Guests wouldn’t need to walk far to get to their cars.
The view of the mountains from the front of the hotel was just amazing. Even though the mountains were getting covered up by clouds, I couldn’t help admiring the view.
The hotel lobby looked very welcoming. I saw some comfortable sofas in a corner to sit down on.
There were lots of different seating areas. They were covered by soft velvet and looked really inviting. I decided to go up to the counter and speak to the staff.
They gave me a map of Double Tree with all the important rooms, like the Game Room and Spa.
The lobby was pretty big and spacious.
It was also quite empty. There weren’t many guests so I could check in to my room quickly.
I headed towards the elevators. A sign next to the elevator doors also showed me the important areas of the hotel, like the bar or the carpark. The hotel had four floors apart from the ground floor.
Then I reached my room. I was pleased that I had a small kitchen area in my room.
There was a washbasin on one side of the counter to wash my hands. On the other side, next to an electric kettle, there were some tea and coffee sachets. There were even two electric burners with knobs at the center in case I wanted to cook.
I opened some of the cabinets and found a toaster inside one of the cabinets.
In another one, there was a French press so that I could make coffee.
Glasses, mugs, bowls and plates had been neatly arranged inside one cabinet.
I looked at the different flavors of tea and coffee and was quite impressed. The hotel had even provided some cookies.
I opened one of the doors at the bottom and found a mini refrigerator behind it.
Just beside that, there was an oven. An oven safe dish had been provided and was kept inside the oven.
There was also a microwave in the small kitchen.
The cupboard below the washbasin held cleaning supplies and a wastepaper basket.
I pulled open the cutlery drawer and found spoons, forks, knives and other kitchen utensils like whisks and spatulas.
Pots, pans and a cheese grater had been carefully arranged in one of the other drawers.
Then I went into the living room. It was a small but cozy little space. There was one double seater sofa and a chair with a glass coffee table in front. The sheer curtains had been pulled over the windows for privacy.
Just opposite the sofa was a large wall mounted TV.
The TV screen had a page about the Hilton Hotel welcoming guests. It also showed the temperature of Queenstown. There was a picture of the hotel with the mountains in the background on the screen.
I had booked a non-smoking room and there was a sign reminding guests not to smoke inside. Apart from that, there were a few pamphlets and brochures about the hotel and about Queenstown in general (e.g. places to go like the Ice Bar) as well as a welcome letter for the guests.
There were two doors leading out of the small living area. One led to the bedroom and the other led to the bathroom. The bathroom had a sliding door.
The bedroom was quite small and cramped but the bed was really comfortable. It had a thick mattress on top and there were plenty of pillows. The room also had two bedside tables on either side of the bed as well as two reading lamps.
I opened the doors of the closet and found extra blankets on the top shelf. Apart from that, there were a number of empty clothes hangers inside the closet. I could hang up my dresses, shirts and jackets if I didn’t want them to get wrinkled.
The hotel also offered laundry and dry cleaning services. A sheet of paper with rates and prices was hung up inside the closet.
At the bottom of the closet were two pairs of soft, warm bedroom slippers.
An ironing board had been folded and kept upright in one corner. I could use it in case I needed to iron my clothes.
The hotel had provided a locker with easy instructions about how to open and use it.
The iron was kept on a small shelf on one side of the closet. The hotel staff had really thought of everything. I wouldn’t need to call housekeeping to ask for things.
Then I decided that I would take a look at the bathroom. It was quite spacious, compared to the small bedroom. There was a washbasin and vanity area with a big mirror and shelves to keep my products. It was well lit.
The hotel had provided body lotion and hand wash. They were by the brand Crabtree and Evelyn and smelled quite pleasant.
The shelf beside the mirror held extra toilet paper rolls and hand towels.
There were also disposable toothbrushes.
Boxes of tissues had been provided.
I pulled open a drawer and found a hairdryer.
Fresh bath towels were kept folded underneath the washbasin.
The shower area held more products by Crabtree and Evelyn, like shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. There was a hand shower for the convenience of the guests.
