Singapore is also called the “ Lion City “.
A lot of people usually get confused over whether Singapore is a city or a country. So, basically it’s a country with a city-state called Singapore as well.
Singapore is known for its brilliant city life and fantastic infrastructure throughout the city. There are also a lot of nice places to stay here like the Orchard Hotel. I’m sure you wouldn’t have any problem finding a good accommodation here.
Amidst all that chaos in the city , there is one place in Singapore that every animal lover would love to visit and that is the Singapore Zoo .
Singapore Zoo: A Place That Every Animal Lover Will Surely Love
I visited the zoo and I was so lucky to have a look at a variety of animals that were taken great care of.
The best thing about this zoo is the open environment that is given to the animals and it does not seem as if they are caged.
Let’s have a look at some of the animals that I saw at the zoo.
Red Ruffed Lemur
This soft furry skinned animal was a unique sight to my eyes.
This unique animal has a striking color that is even exaggerated when I see it under the sun. I saw this beautiful creature jumping from a tree to another and absolutely loved its athletic ability.
The environment that’s provided to these animals is also fantastic and there is an air of freedom for them to move.
Moreover, this species is endangered as well and hence the Singaporean zoo administration is doing a great job for their preservation.
Rhinoceros
Rhinos have been an endangered species for a number of years now and there have been a lot of organizations that are working hard for their preservation.
This zoo is also playing a very positive role in that aspect as well .
Upon my visit to the zoo I was able to see a number of Rhinos which were enjoying their time in an environment that is very close to their natural habitat.
Interesting fact about these giant looking animals is that they are Herbivores and only eat grass.
Their large mouths act as a Grass mowing machine and they spend most of their day churning out grass that they eat.
I was just in awe of the size of these animals and just fell in love with them. Apart from grass, the zoo administration also supplies them with leaves along with fruits as well.
African Painted Dog
If naming an animal was an art, then the name of this animal must have been given by Picasso.
When you have a look at this animal , this name is the most suitable name that you can give to it.
The body of this African dog looks as if it’s painted by a masterful painter.
Another unique thing that I noted regarding these dogs is that no two dogs have the same patterns. All of them have a unique pattern on them which gives them uniqueness and individuality.
These animals are excellent hunters and due to their unmatched stamina they have the highest ratio of hunting among all the carnivores.
Cheetah
The fastest animal on this planet is also present in the Singaporean zoo and it’s nothing short of a great treat for an animal lover like me.
Due to unruly taming and hunting , their number has decreased dramatically in the last few decades.
However, the zoo provides them with an almost identical habitat that they could get when in a jungle.
For security purposes, direct interaction with the cheetah is not allowed for the spectators and I could only see this exuberant animal across a big glass window.
Meerkat
These animals might look very small in size but they are very famous for the bravery that they put on show.
If you get close to them or they feel as if they are in danger , they stand tall just like a human being and all of them start to hiss together as a sign of warning to you .
They are very quick on the ground and it’s a lovely sight to see them moving on the ground.
Lion
The king of the jungle is a great attraction for the tourists coming to the Singapore zoo.
The administration has taken all the necessary steps to keep the Lions that are present in the zoo , safe and happy.
Direct interaction with the general public is not allowed but one fantastic thing that I noticed here was that , The animals are not caged at all.
Although there is a protection barrier of unbreakable glass, the area in which the lion lives or moves is pretty much a forest-like environment.
When I clicked the picture of this beast , it was lying down like a king and resting.
Giraffe
The tallest animals of this planet were brought from India to this historical zoo.
As their natural instinct is to eat leaves from the top of trees, the administration takes special steps to provide them with this chance by putting a bunch of leaves on top of a number of trees.
Monkey
The monkeys are perhaps the most loved animals by the general public upon their visit to the zoo.
The funny acts that they perform along with their friendly nature makes them very popular among the kids and adults alike .
I loved how they kept jumping from one place to another and were enjoying their life in a near natural habitat like environment.
Although there is not any barrier along them but still it is advised to keep a safe distance from them as they have a strong grip and nails and can even hurt you if they are irritated.
Reptile
Along with the land animals, there are also reptiles as well that are present in this zoo.
This adds to the diversity of the zoo and also shows the widespread focus of the zoo on preserving and showcasing the beauty of nature.
These reptiles like Lizards are seen moving on different tree trunks and enjoying fleas as their food.
Turtle
Turtles are given a habitat that is very much close to their natural habitat and they are also provided with food on a constant basis.
Normally, in zoos it is not permissible for the visitors to feed turtles, but special feeding sessions are booked by the administration where people can feed turtles as well as other animals.
Komodo Dragon
These unique giant lizards are considered to be animals of high prestige.
They have a strong sense of smell and even when they are gently walking on the ground, they do it in a way that you just cannot take their eyes off their jiggly walk.
They have tough skin and can even withstand hard environments.
Orangutan
The zoo also hosts a number of orangutans and they can be seen climbing the different trunks of trees that are put there for their activities.
Birds
There are a number of birds as well in the zoo that make the zoo look just as natural as a forest.
Kangaroo
These Australian based animals were the last thing I expected at the zoo , but when you are at the Singapore zoo, sky’s the limit and absolutely nothing is impossible.
The jumping animals add to the attraction and beauty of the zoo.
Tree-Kangaroo
These kangaroos love to stay in the trees and hence they are given this name.
They look like a mixture of a lemur and kangaroo.
These unique animals are an endangered species and the zoo administration is doing its level best for their preservation.
Bugs
There are a number of bugs as well that are given a proper habitat to grow and keep the natural cycle going.
Cassowaries
This bird is also called the most dangerous bird in the world and it is highly advised by the zoo administration to keep a safe distance from this bird.
It’s also the 3rd largest bird in the world and they are also given the nickname of the living dinosaurs .
Pygmy Hippos
Although they are short in size and stature, you can not doubt their strength and power at all. These animals are amphibians and they change their habitat according to the weather of their surroundings.
Pelican
These long beaked White American Pelicans are a thing of beauty.
The zoo administration has taken all the necessary steps to provide these animals with the required natural habitat where their natural instincts are not halted.
Fish
Along with the wildlife and birds, Singaporean zoo also has a variety of fish on display . They are kept in special fish tanks where they are provided with food regularly.
Babirusa
This wild pig is characterized by its love to play in mud and eat a lot.
An almost natural habitat is provided to the wild boar. However, it can be dangerous if you get too close to it.
Sun Bear
The bears are usually known for their size and grandeur. However, sun bears are the smallest species of bears . This does not stop it from being ultra aggressive. These carnivorous animals can literally tear any one apart within a matter of seconds.
All in all, my visit to the Singapore zoo was a surreal experience and the administration of the zoo is doing a great job in managing and preserving all the wildlife and that too with an air of freedom for these animals.
