My Thoughts on Hyatt Regency Yokohama After Staying There

My Thoughts on Hyatt Regency Yokohama After Staying There

Considering it is marketed as a luxury hotel, I had high expectations for my stay at the Hyatt Regency Yokohama. For the most part, the hotel actually delivers and I quite enjoyed my stay there. That said, there were a couple of things that I thought they could’ve done better.

Hyatt Regency Yokohama

The Hyatt Regency Yokohama: A Real Luxury Hotel

The Hyatt Regency Yokohama’s facade reminded me of a lot of hotels in New York. The design of the facade is very modern and I like that you can see the lobby from the outside. I’m not sure if it’s just me but this seems very welcoming and I got the feeling that I might enjoy my stay here.

I visited Yokohama in January and the decorations on the planters still pretty much remind you of the winter holiday season. The lights also gave the hotel a warm welcoming ambiance that I really appreciated.

Hyatt Regency Yokohama entrance

As you get closer and walk to the entrance you’ll have a much clearer view of the hotel’s lobby. One thing I will say though is that while the interiors look amazing, it kind of feels lacking. Maybe I just got used to hotels that incorporate distinctly Japanese designs and motifs in their lobbies.

Hyatt Regency Yokohama's interior

As I settled inside Hyatt Regency Yokohama’s interior I understood why it’s touted as a luxury hotel. It just looks opulent with its minimalist chandeliers and that light fixture at the lobby’s bar adds a sense of ‘grandness’ (for lack of a better word to describe it) to the place.

my room

Much like the lobby, my room also had this look of luxury to it. The white ceiling and walls contrasted really well with the floor, furniture, and other fixtures. I also liked that the room was well lit further accentuating how premium it looked.

items inside one of the cabinet drawers in the closet area

I opened up one of the cabinet drawers in the closet area and found the nightwear/sleepwear provided by the hotel for its guests. There’s also a brush here as well as a travel iron and ironing horse (it’s off to the side) if you need to remove the creases and wrinkles on your clothes.

the coffee maker the hotel provided

This is just right next to the closet area. If you enjoy coffee then you’ll love the coffee maker the hotel provided here. It can be used for both espresso and regular coffee. In addition to the drip pods, instructions on how to use them with the coffee machine as well as two cups can be found in one of the drawers here. Finally, you’ll also have access to a digital safe as well as a bare mini-fridge.

tea and drip pods in the drawer

In case you’re not a coffee person, you’ll also find tea in the drawer where the coffee drip pods are.

washroom area

The washroom area is probably the least impressive part of my room. Not that it looked bad. I actually think it’s great. Just that the rest of the room looked really impressive. In contrast, this area felt a little small.

toiletries

What it lacks in size though, it makes up for by providing guests with some really nice toiletries for their personal hygiene. Though I typically bring my own toiletries during my trips, I did end up using some of the bath salts and body lotion in this drawer. I also got a lot of use out of the hair dryer (with it being the winter and all).

toilet

The toilet here is rather bare design-wise. In terms of functionality though, it more than does the job. The toilet seat is comfortable to sit on and the room itself has good lighting.

bathroom

I really liked this bathroom. I think it’s actually much more spacious than the washroom area. More importantly though, the bathtub here is very comfortable. Blink and you just might actually doze off.

shower

The shower is pretty standard. You’re able to choose between hot and cold and much like with the other hotels that I’ve stayed in, you’re provided with a bottle each of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

a bottle each of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash

Like I said in my other hotel reviews, I typically bring my own toiletries so I wasn’t able to use these. I did end up opening a bottle and it actually smelled nice with an earthy and slightly nutty aroma.

clearer view of the bathtub

A clearer view of the bathtub. Its size was just right and as I said earlier, sitting here was quite comfortable at least for me.

bed area

Perhaps the best part of the room is the bed area. I didn’t bother much with the television but I could imagine myself watching a movie or two here before I went to sleep.

the bed

Speaking of sleeping, the bed here was just too good. It was soft and the pillows provided just enough firmness that I didn’t have to worry about any neck stiffness when I woke up. The sheets smelled like they were new or at the very least newly come out of the laundry and dryer.

items on the bedside table

Here’s what’s on the bedside table. Aside from the television remote, there are buttons here for lighting as well as stationery for writing down important stuff.

ad for special offers

The bedside table also has an ad for special offers from the restaurant’s very own Milano Grill. Other than this, you’ll find a phone as well as a checklist of the items the Hyatt Regency provides for you in the room.

view from my bedroom

Arguably the best part of the bedroom area is this view. I actually found myself using the daybed a lot not just because it was comfortable but the view it afforded was also quite nice.

view of Yokohama

Yokohama in the morning actually looks quite nice. The view in this room probably isn’t the most scenic but it’s also not the worst. I particularly like how the sun’s light illuminates the buildings here in the early morning hours.

And as you can see from the picture above, this hotel is located in the downtown area so the traffic can be heavy during some parts of the day. It took me 40 minutes by taxi to get to Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum from here.

in-room dining menu

This was the in-room dining menu on the bedside table. I was kind of baffled why they didn’t place it in a clear book or transparent jacket.

items on the in-room dining menu

The menu items here are a little on the expensive side. This is especially true for the beers. If price is a concern and you’re really thirsting for an Asahi super dry then you might want to consider going outside (there’s a Lawson in the nearby block where the Yokohama Training Center is).

other items on the in-room dining menu

Other than beer, you can also opt to order wine through the in-room dining menu. Again, it will be on the more expensive side but considering how wine is priced at most restaurants, these rates might be more favorable.

The Hyatt Regency Yokohama really does live up to its luxury hotel marketing. It’s not perfect mind you, but what I perceive as its flaws are probably just me nitpicking. The room I stayed in was comfortable and it had a decent view of the city’s skyline. And like other luxury hotels, it also has amenities like the gym and  restaurants like the Harbor Kitchen where you can have breakfast. If you have the budget, then I think the Hyatt Regency would be one of the nicer places to stay when you’re in Yokohama.
